Forum for Interaction, Networking & Sourcing

A platform to showcase emerging opportunities and bring together sugar mills, distilleries, equipment manufacturers, bioprocessing companies, technology providers, industry leaders and investors.

India’s sugar and bioprocessing industries are evolving from conventional sugar manufacturing towards integrated industrial operations incorporating ethanol, cogeneration, bioenergy, biorefineries, advanced processing and value-added products.

The ethanol procurement tender issued on 16 October 2026 excludes sugarcane juice, sugar syrup and B-heavy molasses-based ethanol for the 2026–27 supply year. This is a significant near-term challenge for sugar-based distilleries and increases the importance of feedstock diversification and alternative revenue streams.

  • A premier B2B platform for India’s Sugar, Ethanol, Distillery & Bioprocessing Industries.
  • Bringing together sugar mills, distilleries, technology manufacturers, equipment suppliers, policymakers, industry leaders and investors.
  • Showcasing advanced technologies, sustainable manufacturing, automation, energy efficiency and value-added products.
  • Promoting business partnerships, technology transfers, investment opportunities and industrial growth.
  • Hosted in Pune, Maharashtra, a major hub of India’s sugar, ethanol and allied industries.

  • Maharashtra, a leading sugar hub: Maharashtra had 210 operational sugar mills during the 2025–26 crushing season, creating substantial demand for manufacturing, processing and modernisation technologies.
  • Expanding ethanol industry: India achieved approximately 20% ethanol blending in petrol, with annual ethanol production capacity reaching about 2,000 crore litres in 2026.
  • Growing distillery and fermentation sector: The ethanol programme has stimulated investment in distillation, dehydration, fermentation and feedstock-processing facilities, with grain-based ethanol now accounting for the majority of supply.
  • Rapidly developing bioprocessing industry: India’s broader bioeconomy reached approximately US$195.3 billion in 2025, creating opportunities for industrial fermentation, biotechnology, bio-based chemicals and biomanufacturing. This figure covers the entire bioeconomy, not just sugar-related processing.
  • Established cogeneration sector: India’s installed bagasse-based cogeneration capacity reached approximately 9,821 MW by September 2026, demonstrating the sugar industry’s important contribution to renewable power generation.
  • Emerging Bio-CNG and waste-to-energy industry: India had 217 commissioned compressed biogas plants as of August 2026, with opportunities to utilise press mud, agricultural residues and organic wastes.
  • Sugar by-products and value addition: Bagasse, molasses, press mud and other sugar-processing residues provide feedstocks for bioenergy, organic fertilisers, biochemicals and alternative industrial products.
  • Industrial automation and modernisation: Sugar mills and bioprocessing plants offer opportunities for efficient crushing, process automation, instrumentation, advanced boilers, energy management and smart manufacturing systems.
  • Water and environmental technologies: Effluent treatment, wastewater recycling, zero-liquid-discharge and resource recovery are increasingly important for distilleries and sugar-processing facilities.
  • Biorefineries and biochemicals: Government initiatives such as the BioE3 Policy are supporting biomanufacturing, bio-based chemicals, biopolymers and industrial biotechnology.
  • Strong rural and industrial linkages: The sugarcane industry supports nearly 5 crore farmers and approximately 5 lakh workers in sugar factories and allied industries.
  • Growing technology and investment opportunities: Diversification into bioenergy, high-value by-products and advanced bioprocessing creates opportunities for machinery manufacturers, EPC contractors, technology suppliers, engineering companies and investors.
